Pet Naturals of Vermont Hip+Joint - Pet Product Review

As cooler weather approaches, it's time to prevent doggy arthritis.
This year I am using Hip+Joint supplement chews from Pet Naturals of Vermont to prevent cold weather aches & pains.
{Pet Naturals of Vermont also makes Flea+Tick wipes, but I didn't have a chance to test them.  I was going to test them on Mom (mosquitoes & no-see-ums), but the package says it's only for use on dogs, cats, and horses. Mom's a human, she isn't a dog, a cat, or a horse. BOL!}
-----------------------------------------------------
I've been on joint supplements ever since I had patella surgery on both knees when I was 7 months old.  I have 2 pins in one leg from the surgery.  I haven't limped since my surgery.  I think one reason is because I followed the surgeon's instructions to take a joint supplement every day.   Another thing I do to prevent limping is using pet ramps/stairs instead of jumping.  I have never been allowed to jump on or off of furniture.  Mom also makes sure that I don't gain too much weight because extra pounds are ruff on little Pommie knees.
The first thing I look for when choosing a supplement is the NASC seal.  Hip+Joint has it.  Now for the ingredients - I look for joint supplements that contain at least: Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, and EPA.
Active Ingredients for 2 medium/large Hip+Joint Chews (I am under 25 pounds, so I only eat 1 chew.):
Glucosamine HCl (Shrimp and Crab)                             750 mg
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)                                   400 mg
Chondroitin Sulfate (Porcine)                                 400 mg
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)                                     100 mg
N,N-Dimethylglycine HCl (DMG)                                 100 mg
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)                                    18 mg
Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)                                     12 mg
Manganese (Mn Proteinate)                                       5 mg
Inactive Ingredients: allspice, arabic gum, brewers yeast, calcium sulfate, chicken liver flavor,
citric acid, fish oil, glycerin, ground oat groats, ground rye groats, maltodextrin, mixed
tocopherols, nutmeg, oat meal, pectin, propionic acid, rosemary extract, silicon dioxide,
sodium alginate, sorbic acid, soy lecithin, vegetable oil, water.
I eat one of these yummy Hip+Joint treats every night.
The chews come in different sizes for different weights.  I received the chews for medium to large dogs.  It says 1 chew a day for dogs up to 25 pounds.   I am 14 pounds, so I eat 1 chew.  If I had the ones for small dogs, I'd get to eat 2 chews a day (2 chews a day for dogs up to 20 pounds).
I think I am supposed to get about 280 mg of Glucosamine a day (according to Mom's recent internet searches = 20 mg per pound).  The surgeon never told Mom the exact dose I need, just to follow the directions on the bag/bottle.   Before now, Mom never thought about learning the actual mg amount I should get.   Now that Mom knows different supplements/sizes contain different amounts, she'll need to learn the mg, instead of just giving me the the number of chews on the bag.   With the 1 medium/large chew, I am getting 375 mg.  2 small chews contain 200 mg.   I think the easiest way to get closer to 280 mg would be to eat 3 small chews.  I am always in favor of more treats.  BOL!
Mom says that I am one of those dogs who needs extra joint support, not just arthritis prevention (dogs who had surgery, already have arthritis, and working/active dogs).  So the 1 medium treat is probably a good amount (Mom will check with my vet during my next appointment).  I think she just doesn't want to give me more treats.
I am almost 7 years old, had patella surgery on both knees, and I have 2 pins in one leg.   I may not run as much as other dogs, but at least I don't limp.   Pet Naturals of Vermont Hip+Joint is a yummy supplement treat that keeps my knees moving smoothly.
